Brand new Operating Room installed in Somalia

Fantastic news - we have opened a brand new children's operating room in Somalia!

Installed alongside our partners Smile Train, this amazing new facility is now in Kalkaal Hospital in the country's capital city, Mogadishu.

The hospital serves a population of over 2.5million people - meaning the improved level of care this installation brings will be genuinely life-changing for many.

The hospital was officially opened at a ceremony, led by Dr Mohamed Hassan Mohamed, Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Health and Human Services. He said, "This life-changing investment by Smile Train and KidsOR will prioritise and enhance the quality of children’s surgery that is greatly needed in our country.”

We also appreciate them for enhancing our capacity to provide children with the best surgical care in an environment that makes them feel cared for." Kalkaal Hospital Chief Executive Officer Dr Suleiman Abdullahi Mohamed.

It's a great feeling to have brought access to safe surgery for children in Somalia for the first time. We're excited to hear of the impact this facility has on the local surgical team and their ability to provide care to Somalian children.
