Gilbert's 9-year-long wait for a simple operation in Kakuma Refugee Camp
Gilbert had to wait 9 years to receive the simple operation he desperately needed because the hospital in Kakuma Refugee camp didn't have the necessary infrastructure to care for his condition. Fortunately, KidsOR installed the first-ever children's Operating Room in a refugee setting in Kakuma Refugee Camp, giving children in the camp access to safe, timely surgery for the very first time.
Soon after the installation of the paediatric Operating Room, Gilbert got the simple but life-changing operation he needed to live a life free of pain. The hernia, which prevented him from feeding well, playing with his friends and attending school, will no longer be an obstacle for Gilbert.
