Our first Operating Room in the Central African Republic!

News

We've officially opened a brand new children's operating room!

Fantastic news - our latest life-saving theatre, in the Central African Republic, was opened at an official ceremony last week.

This amazing new space is our newest project with partners Smile Train and marks our first in the country. The hospital, which is located in the capital city Bangui, serves a community of over 800,000 people.

CAR faces a number of significant challenges in delivering healthcare, with limited access a huge factor. The country has one of the highest under 5 mortality rates in the world.

This means that our space here, which includes over 3,000 pieces of dedicated paediatric surgical equipment, will save the lives of thousands of children for years to come.

In attendance was the Minister for Health Dr Pierre Somse who commended the collaboration that has strengthened health systems at the hospital. He said: “The improvement in the theatre infrastructure by Smile Train and Kids Operating room is warmly welcome as it dedicates quality and safe surgery to children.”

Prof. Jean-Chrysostome Gody, added: “There is a great sense of calm that has come with the newly refurbished theatre, and the equipment makes it easy for our teams to provide the best possible surgical treatment to all children. The support by Smile Train and Kids Operating Room has certainly improved the quality of life for children.”
