Biography

Prof Youngson graduated from Aberdeen University Medical School with distinction in Medicine and Surgery in 1973. Prof Youngson was appointed a Consultant General Surgeon in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in 1984, Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital in 1988, awarded a personal chair in paediatric surgery in 1999 and appointed Emeritus Professor of Paediatric Surgery of by Aberdeen University in 2010.

Prof Youngson was a past Council member and Vice-President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and past co-chairman of the Managed Service Network for Children and Young People with Cancer in Scotland. He was made Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to Child Health in June 2009.

Prof. Youngson is married to Sandie, an artist in Aberdeen, has two daughters, one son and eight grandchildren.
