In January 2018 Garreth and Nicola Wood founded Kids Operating Room, with the goal of creating a world where every child has equal access to safe surgery.
Studies show more children aged between five and fourteen die every year from surgically-treatable injuries than from malaria, HIV and TB combined.
KidsOR works globally, supporting local surgeons with the correct equipment to allow them to care for their nation’s children.
In many cases, KidsOR provides the first dedicated paediatric
operating room in the whole country.
KidsOR has provided capacity for thousands of children to access the urgent care they need, installing the first and only paediatric operating room in Rwanda, a country with a population of over 5.1 million children.
Our installation in Tanzania helped to wipe out a three-year waiting list for elective surgery.
In Ecuador our projects are helping children from some remote communities in the Amazon Rainforest access surgery for the first time.
