Refugee children deserves access to surgery too
Kids Operating Room exist to bring safe surgery to every child
Just like Gilbert, there were many children living at Kakuma Refugee Camp who had been waiting for years for a simple, but life-changing surgery.
Accessing safe healthcare is often very difficult for the more than 26 million refugees around the world, many of whom are children. These children live vulnerable to breaking a leg and living the rest of their lives in disability, or spending years in pain waiting for a 30-minute procedure, or dying while on a backlog for a surgically treatable condition.
Too many refugee children have no access to safe and timely surgery. That's why we installed the world's first-ever children's Operating Room in a refugee camp.
Check out the before and after of the first paediatric operating theatre in a refugee setting.
