Kids Operating Room exist to bring safe surgery to every child
Just like Gilbert, there were many children living at Kakuma Refugee Camp who had been waiting for years for a simple, but life-changing surgery. Accessing safe healthcare is often very difficult for the more than 26 million refugees around the world, many of whom are children. These children live vulnerable to breaking a leg and living the rest of their lives in disability, or spending years in pain waiting for a 30-minute procedure, or dying while on a backlog for a surgically treatable condition. Too many refugee children have no access to safe and timely surgery. That's why we installed the world's first-ever children's Operating Room in a refugee camp.
Check out the before and after of the first paediatric operating theatre in a refugee setting.
