Our Approach to Research

A Unique Collaborative Model

At KidsOR, research is an important part of our work. This is visible not only in our monitoring and evaluation processes, but in our wider research into barriers to accessing paediatric surgery in LMICs and global health systems strengthening.

Our collaborative research effort with institutions and individual hospital research teams means that we are working together to improve paediatric surgical services on a global scale.

We have a team of local data collectors based in each partner hospital, collecting key demographic, clinical, and socio-economic data from the use of the Operating Room. They make this research their top priority, allowing surgical teams to focus on delivering essential paediatric surgical care.

Our research will show the impact of our work:

  • within the populations of children in our partner countries
  • towards the WHO health system building blocks
  • towards the Sustainable Development Goals

In global health, it is becoming increasingly understood that evaluation of interventions is key to ensuring sustainable and long-term change. We aim to not only produce evaluations looking at health outcomes, but to evaluate how our programs affect the complex health systems in which they are context to.

“Evaluation must now become the top priority in Global Health.”
