Scotland’s First Minister visits Kids Operating Rooms in Zambia
Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, has visited the three Kids Operating Rooms at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, meeting the surgical teams transforming access to safe surgery for children across Zambia.
The visit highlighted the ongoing partnership between Kids Operating Room and the Scottish Government, whose support has played a pivotal role in bringing life-changing paediatric surgical capacity to Zambia and other partner countries across Africa.
During the tour, the First Minister met with the hospital’s paediatric surgical team and saw first-hand how the operating rooms have transformed the level of care available to children. Since their installation, thousands of young patients have received the safe surgery they need - many for the first time in their lives.
The First Minister’s visit marks a celebration of the lasting impact that collaboration between governments, charities and healthcare professionals can have - ensuring that every child, no matter where they are born, can access the surgical care they deserve.
