Nine KidsOR scholars graduate at COSECSA.
We’re thrilled to share an extraordinary milestone in the journey to improve children’s surgical care across Africa. Last week, nine incredible paediatric surgical trainees, supported by Kids Operating Room, graduated from their training program at the COSECSA (College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa) annual conference held in Harare, Zimbabwe.
These graduates, representing Zambia, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, have spent years developing the skills and expertise needed to address one of the most pressing challenges in global health: the shortage of paediatric surgeons.
Paediatric surgery is one of the most underserved areas of healthcare in low-resource settings, leaving countless children without access to life-saving procedures. These nine newly qualified surgeons will make a profound impact in their countries, transforming the lives of thousands of children and families.
Speaking about this achievement, Kids Operating Room CEO David Cunningham said:
“Investing in training is the most fundamentally important thing that we do. The operating rooms last a very long time, but these scholars will outlast them. They have the opportunity to now give back a lifetime of service and transform thousands and thousands of lives. It is an incredible privilege for us to have played a small part in their journey."
“We're immensely proud to have been a small part in their great success. In Kids Operating Room, they have a friend for life who's got their back and is cheering for them. We thank them for everything they've done and everything they're going to do in the future.”
Kids Operating Room is proud to have supported these scholars on their journey and is excited to see the impact they will make. From hospitals in Zambia to those in Malawi, their skill and dedication will help close the gap in paediatric surgical care and provide children with the healthcare they urgently need.
This incredible milestone is a testament to the power of education, collaboration, and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare for children across Africa.
