Nicola visits Zambia!
Kids Operating Room's mission is simple: to create access to safe, timely surgery for children living without it.
Earlier this year, a KidsOR team, led by co-founder Nicola Wood, had the privilege of travelling to Zambia to see just how our work is achieving this.
We were able to see first-hand the impact of new, existing and future KidsOR Operating Rooms.
Kabwe Central Hospital:
In collaboration with the Scottish Government, KidsOR installed the first dedicated paediatric theater at this hospital, serving a population of 2.2 million people. It was a moment of immense pride for us, as this facility represents a beacon of hope for countless children in need of surgical care.
A Day in Lusaka UTH:
Day two in Zambia took us to Lusaka University Training Hospital, a facility with 3 KidsOR theatres. It was a privilege to see the surgical team here hard at work. Here, Nicola was able to meet the children and families whose lives have been profoundly touched by the facilities provided by KidsOR.
Livingstone Central Hospital: A Glimpse of the Future:
Our journey extended to Livingstone Central Hospital, where the team were able to witness the arrival of a new operating room. We were shown the space where the equipment would be installed and see the excitement on the team's face at the prospect of their new, world-class theatre.
Nicola's visit strengthens our resolve to continue our mission, one surgery at a time, one child at a time.
