New theatre in Bangladesh!

News

We’re thrilled to announce the opening of a brand-new paediatric operating room at Nargis Memorial Hospital, located in Khulna - one of Bangladesh’s largest cities. This state-of-the-art facility, created in partnership with Smile Train, marks a major milestone in our mission to bring life-changing surgical care to children around the world.

This new operating room is a game-changer. With a capacity for up to 20 transformative surgeries every single day, it means more children in Bangladesh will have access to the best care possible globally.

Dr Arif, the hospital director, captured the impact of this moment perfectly, saying:

"You have changed the outlook of the hospital - everyone is praising the new setup."

His words highlight not just the difference this operating room will make for young patients, but also the pride and optimism it has inspired within the hospital and the surrounding community.

This project is particularly significant as it marks our first collaboration in Asia with Smile Train and our second operating room in the continent. It’s a testament to what’s possible when organisations work together to tackle big challenges. But it’s also important to acknowledge that achievements like this don’t come easily.

Creating a world-class operating room in a region with limited infrastructure takes immense effort - from securing funding, coordinating with local hospitals, and navigating logistical challenges to ensuring every piece of equipment is installed and functioning perfectly. Behind the scenes, our teams work tirelessly to overcome these hurdles. Every new operating room we open is the result of countless hours of dedication, persistence, and problem-solving, all driven by a shared mission to improve children’s lives.

Today isn’t just about opening a new operating room; it’s a great day for global paediatric health. A day that reminds us of the extraordinary things we can achieve together - through hard work, collaboration, and an unrelenting belief in children's human right to care.
