First installation of 2025

We're delighted to announce that we have installed our first two paediatric operating rooms of 2025 - at Sally Mugabe Children's Hospital in Harare, Zimbabwe.

This is a significant step in improving surgical access for children in a country where thousands still die each year from treatable conditions due to a lack of surgical resource and infrastructure.

Zimbabwe faces alarmingly high child mortality rates, and a high part of this burden comes from children suffering from conditions that could have been treated in an operating room.

By installing these dedicated children's theatres, KidsOR is ensuring that children in Zimbabwe can receive safe, high-quality surgery when they need it.

Dr. Sandra Mukandona, a KidsOR scholar who graduated last year as a fully trained paediatric surgeon, expressed her gratitude for the impact these new facilities will have in her native country.

"I am thrilled to have these theatres. Thank you to KidsOR for creating a state-of-the-art theatre for our paediatric patients to receive safe and timely surgery. As a surgeon who will spend most of my time in this incredible operating room, I am forever grateful."

These new operating rooms are more than just a medical facility - they represent hope for thousands of families who previously had no options for their children’s care. With these theatres now in place, surgeons like Dr. Mukandona will be able to perform more life-saving operations, improving outcomes and giving children a better chance at a healthy future.

KidsOR remains committed to expanding access to paediatric surgery across low-resource settings, ensuring that children, no matter where they are born, have the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong.
